Membership of the voluntary Collective is restricted to (a) Journalists and media professionals, including online and digital media professionals; (b) academics in the media or publishing field; (c) legal professionals (Associate membership).

The collective was founded in 2021, during COVID lockdown, by the current State President (Delhi NCR) of the reputed Journalist and Media Association to create lecture series and meetups between working media professionals and intellectuals in academia.

NB: JMA is a national association of journalists recognized by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, with a registered Tier-II Self-Regulatory Body (SRB) "Council" for News Publishers under IT Rules, 2021.

As responsible volunteer legal and media professionals covering Bharat from all directions, we create reliable and authentic knowledge of local news and current affairs for our member base, while adhering to and promoting industry standard ethical principles summarised below.

We shall have a "Tier-1" grievance officer with current membership of a Journalist and Media Association which has a further Tier-II Grievance Council SRB for News Publisher in place as per IT Act Guidelines. and comply with registration and reporting requirements such as Rule 18.

Voluntary (non-binding) principles endeavoured to be followed by this Collective, members and website(s)

We shall strive to adhere to national laws, including media regulations and IT legislation. We shall endeavour to maintain high standards of journalistic ethics and professional conduct.

Accuracy and Fairness

We attempt to verify information before publication to avoid inaccuracies and defamation. We try to Include comments from all parties involved in allegations or disputes where possible. We reserve the right to suitably update articles with new developments when requested by concerned parties in accordance with journalistic norms

Content Management

We Edit or remove false or inaccurate information upon receiving credible corrections. We shall respect intellectual property rights; We shall exercise caution when reporting on sensitive matters (e.g., crime, sexual harassment, minors). We shall avoid publishing obscene or sexually explicit material, especially involving minors.

Privacy and Protection

We shall preserve the presumption of innocence in crime reporting. We shall protect the identity of victims, especially in cases involving minors or sexual offenses. We shall exercise discretion in reporting on communal or religious disputes.

Grievance Redressal

We shall implement a grievance redressal mechanism as per IT Act guidelines. We shall appoint a grievance officer and display their contact information prominently. We shall attempt to acknowledge complaints within 36 working hours and resolve issues within one month.

Training

We shall conduct regular internal training on media laws, ethics, and responsible reporting. We shall create awareness about legislative privileges and accurate court reporting.

Special Considerations

We shall use extra caution when reporting on communal issues, judicial matters, and privacy concerns. We shall ensure balanced coverage in sensitive cases, including perspectives from all parties involved.
